The Bee Gees, EKKA, and Noosa!

This past weekend has been pretty eventful! I had the chance to see more of the surrounding areas of Brisbane such as Redcliffe, Shorncliffe, Fortitude Valley and Noosa National Park! I jammed so many fun activities within 4 days, I was completely exhausted when Sunday arrived, but hey, I had so much fun!

Wednesday,

August 16th was a public holiday, so for my day off from classes, I organized a little trip to the suburbs of Redcliffe and Shorncliffe. I first went to Redcliffe, which took about 2 hours by train and bus, but the long commute was so worth it because I was going to a road that is dedicated to The Bee Gees! Yeah, I didn't realize they were from Australia, let alone Redcliffe Aus! A couple days before I was searching for cool things to see and one suggestion said to go to the Bee Gees Way, and I just had to! This little road had a lot of quotes, song lyrics and murals all over the walls with two different statues of them playing guitars. Also their music was playing in the background (when I got there, the song "To Love Somebody" was on), and I was too excited to send pictures of this road to my parents!

After taking as many pictures of The Bee Gees as I can, I wandered around the area and took some cool pictures of the pier, boats and a historical ship wreck.

I from here I almost missed my bus to go to shornclifffe (the buses here run once an hour) but got there in just enough time to meet up with Valerie, Mario, Rikke, Ingvild and Håvard! We got lunch at a cute little surf shack called Doug's Seafood Cafe. I got the fish and chips and I believe it was the tastiest fish and chips I've had! We chilled on the beach and watched the windsurfers jump 20ft in the air! It was getting late, so I didn't windsurf, but hopefully I'll get the chance sometime when I'm still in Australia. This was a perfect way to spend the day off of school!

Friday...

I went to EKKA! The public holiday that was on Wednesday is dedicated to the Royal Queensland Show (which was also happening throughout the whole week). Ekka is kind of like a state fair: lemonade, ice cream, funnel cakes, corn dogs (or dagwood dogs), petting zoo, and carnival rides. I met up with Julia, Valerie, Mario, Najib, Ingvild, Håvard, Guillaume, and Barbara. We walked around for a while looking for something good to eat--I got soft serve coconut ice cream and Mario bought a lasagna on a stick (yeah thats a thing)! Later that evening, Valerie and I went on the Swings ride, it was so much fun and brought back so many memories from when I went to state fairs when I was younger. We also played carnival games, and watched a Monster Truck/motorcycle show (they were doing flips in the air!!) that was hosted in the arena, which we all enjoyed. Ekka ended with a grand fireworks show and it was over. I haven't been to a fair like this in a while, so coming to Ekka and participating in the festivities made it even more special!

Saturday...

...I woke up extremely early to go to Noosa National Park with my university's international student club. I went to this event hoping to meet more friends, and I was right! I met a group of girls from Norway (Bjørg, Sandra, and Katharina) and a guy from Germany (Arrthur). The trip to Noosa is a 2 hour drive, and after the first hour and a half the bus stopped at the Eumundi Markets. The Eumundi Markets is a huge market where people sell their craft (from food vendors, to clothing vendors, to jewelry vendors, etc). We walked around for about an hour, looking at the cool things that were being sold. I bought a delicious spring roll for a snack and a carton of strawberries to eat later.

We hopped back on the bus and 30 minutes later we arrived at the beautiful national park: Noosa! The five of us really wanted to go for a hike, so we hiked the coastal track to Dolphin Point and Hell's Gates. The hike was amazing, seeing the stunning beaches and the view of the water, man it looks just like paradise! Except it was 65 deg F (but the sun was hot that day too). The water had a rich blue  and sea foam green color, just describing it doesn't do it justice, so I'll show a couple of pictures:

We hiked for most of the day, and spent an hour at the beach (I totally forgot to bring a swimsuit --I'll get tan another time). They day ended at 4pm to get back to Brisbane around 6pm. I had a great time meeting these amazing people and spending the day in a national park!

Wow! I did so much within a short amount of time during this week. I'm really glad that this week was a blast --I'm looking forward to more days like this!
